America Reads-Mississippi AmeriCorps Member is Impacting Children Nationwide by Thinking, Acting Locally

America Learns denoted today that a tutoring strategy created by America Reads – Mississippi member Sherry Martin has been identified September’s National Strategy of the Month. Throughout September, Sherry’s strategy will be accessible for loose to thousands of teachers, tutors, mentors and parents comprehensive through the America Learns website and monthly e-newsletter

Sherry created her strategy after happening that some of her students were neglecting to acknowledge the letters of the alphabet through conventional instructing techniques. Her strategy, named “Nice to Meet you, Mr./Ms. Letter,” engages preschool and Kindergarten students in a group activity that gets the kids up and traveling while making the lesson finger more like a game than a larning activity

Her enthusiasm rubs off on her students. Sherry will make an enthusiastic teacher one day because she really cares about her students and their larning.”

About America Reads Mississippi

Established in 1998, America Reads Mississippi (ARM) is an AmeriCorps program administered through the Academic Affairs Office of the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning. It is the largest AmeriCorps program in the state and one of the largest in the country.
